COURSE NARRATIVES
SPAN 305: Spanish for the Professions, helped me practice my listening, reading, and writing skills for business purposes. I took this course in Fall 2022 and it helped me fulfill MLO 1 by helping me communicate in professional settings. The class was taught by David Vila Dieguez. The course outline is intended for students who are interested in learning how to utilize Spanish in a practical way for various professions (such as business, education, law, medicine, social work, etc.) from a Hispanic cultural perspective. It provides pupils with the chance to hone and improve their speaking, reading, writing, and listening abilities. Both the cultural context and the content area will come from the Spanish-speaking region of the planet. The instruction is delivered in Spanish. In this course I wrote a cover letter and a letter of recommendation to be used for when I applied for a job in the field of Spanish speaking context. I also had an oral exam which was a job interview. The job interview was to assess my language skills and the ability to use the appropriate vocabulary in a formal interview. I found the cover letter, letter of recommendation, and job interview very helpful because they showed me how I have to do all three of them properly. The job interview was what I was most interested in and nervous about. The interview was based on a teacher position that had just opened. Before the interview, I read the details of the position and the qualifications I needed to meet to make sure I met the requirements. Reading the job description helped me to know more about the job and helped me answer some of the interview questions. Once I finished the interview I was very pleased with the results because the professor informed me of what I needed to improve and gave me advice on how to improve my interview process. I will continue practicing on what I need to improve to get better at it. I really enjoyed the interview because I took it as something positive for myself and it helped me practice my Spanish in an interview, which I hadn't done.
