MLO 5
MLO 5: CULTURAL INTERNALIZATION & LANGUAGE IMMERSION
Students demonstrate that they have actively immersed themselves in authentic Hispanic cultural and linguistic environments and have internalized the language and cultural experiences, from which they have developed personal understanding and new perspectives of Hispanic communities.
Students develop intercultural communication skills and strategies, and learn to adapt and respond in effective ways.
Pathway 1: Study Abroad: By participating in a study-abroad program in a Spanish-speaking country for one at least summer or one semester. Classes completed in the study-abroad experience may also be counted towards another MLO.
Pathway 2: Latino Heritage Community Project: By participating in and completing a community project in a local Latino community, in the target language.

MLO REFLECTIVE NARRATIVE
Here is the description for the MLO: Students show that they actively immersed themselves in real Spanish cultural and linguistic surroundings, assimilated the experience, and used it to get a new perspective on Hispanic cultures as well as a personal understanding of them.Students learn efficient adaptation and response techniques as well as multicultural communication techniques. Study abroad or a similar experience may satisfy this MLO. One MLO may accept credits earned through a study abroad program. Students who select Pathway 2 will complete this prerequisite by participating in a community initiative. This MLO is fulfilled by SPAN 301S Service Learning in the Chicano / Latino Community , which I took in fall 2022. The class was taught by Professor Dr. Carolyn González. In this course, I took part in community projects that are important and relevant. It involved discussions of justice, kindness, diversity, and social responsibility and helping them become skilled multicultural community builders. The training aims to enhance oral communication skills in Spanish in both personal and professional contexts, as well as during class discussions.
